Lansdale Lansdale keeps things pumping until the final predictable triumph of good over evil--with Monty along the way changing facilely from milquetoast to macho man via a baptism of blood. All sizzle and no steak makes for a very light meal indeed. Lansdale has talent, no doubt--but it's wasted on this gory. Awards. Joe Lansdale has won eleven Bram Stoker Awards over the course of his long career. The short story Night They Missed the Horror Show won the award for "Short Fiction" in In the "Long Fiction" category (which is for novellas, though it also initially included comic book work as well), he won in for On the Far Side of the Cadillac Desert with Dead Folks, for The Big Blow.

Hell, it’s probably the darkest story he’s ever written, and by darkest, I mean the most brutally vicious. It touches on some difficult subjects. Nightrunners is a show of the extreme dark side of human nature and what happens when light and dark begin to mix unwittingly. Lansdale is a master with the articulation of how good must fight the murky veil of evil without falling into the same mindset or abyss of an incredibly chaotic and insane situation that he draws so well in his story.
